Clothing Care Tips

 How to color set your dark wash jeans: For two to three pairs of jeans. Fill washing machine three quarters of the way full with cold water and add one cup of white vinegar. Do not use detergent. Turn jeans inside out and zip up the zipper. Hang to dry to ensure the color and keep the jeans lasting longer.

 When washing clothes, turn clothing inside out and wash in cool to warm water. Only white undergarments should be washed in hot.

 To keep whites looking whiter: pour one half of a cup of lemon juice in the rinse cycle of your whites.

 Store folded cashmere and wool sweaters in a large Ziploc bag with a couple of holes punched in the bottom to allow the fabric to breathe. Always wash wool and cashmere with a mild hand wash soap.

 Pre-spot clothing as soon as possible. Use cold water and dab do not rub. Do not touch silk, suede or other fine fabrics. When treating a spot, always turn the item inside out and rub the spot outwards. Never spot clean clothing by rubbing with a paper napkin.

 For salad dressing: place cornstarch on the spot as soon as possible allow to sit for 10 – 15 minutes then follow up with a stain remover. Let the stain remover sit for 15 minutes and then wash in cold water. For non washables rinse gently in cool water.

 Use cedar blocks and cedar balls to keep bugs away from clothing. Available at Target.

 Iron or steam clothing inside out to keep color lasting longer. The best iron on the market is the Rowenta brand and is available at Macy’s. I would also recommend a commercial grade steamer.

 Be careful when laundering items. Clothing will last longer if it is hung or laid flat to dry rather than the dryer.

 When dry cleaning items with fancy buttons or trims…be sure to ask the drycleaner to “foil” the buttons or trims.
